Fortunately, Pete and MJ (specifically Ock and MJ *shudder*) aren't together "again." Ock decided to stop courting MJ for now (Without getting as much as a hand-job, too... Suck it, Rule 34!) Whether they keep it that way depends on how much Slott values his pathetic life. I'm serious. He got his fill in death threats after "Dying Wish;" he should know better than to mess around now. If he decides to cross another line, it's his funeral. I refuse to feel sorry for whatever becomes of him.
Its not the worst shark jump they have ever done with Spider-man. I feel a lot of people are still unhappy with the "one more day" and are pouring hate over from that. I'd give it a few issues before getting red with rage, besides is its not permanent. Pete's psyche will overwhelm the Doc's eventually and we will be have to square one.
I'm sorry, but how do we know that? Look at all the bad stuff in Spidey's life that Marvel hasn't reversed...
1)Stacy's Death (something that gets less and less dignified by the day.)
2)One More Day (It hasn't been reversed, so of course people are fuming about it.)
3)Peter Parker not growing up. Look up any of Linkara's Spider-man reviews, see the After Hours Spider-man discussion on Youtube, the list goes on. Seriously, we've had four of Batman's Robins grow up and Peter still has yet to act like a responsible adult (ironically.)
And Superior's been running for four issues already, and it's terrible. A comic is supposed to be something someone can enjoy, not a disaster they have to tough through.
I have read them all. One more day wont ever be reversed (or it will be a few years more a petition with a lot of people) Mary Jane was a minor character they brought back and married to race DC who just married Superman to Lois Lane (which was reversed with the 52). They were force to write that, and didn't like it.
Stacy's death was terrible at the time but does bug me these day. Remember Spider-man black suit and Venom were said to be the worst thing ever at the time.
As for Pete growing up, Frank Miller put the nail in that coffin years ago, and both books were beasts. One could argue that Marvel2 is them letting Marvel get old but they botched many of those books, i was liking and hating J2 at the same time.
Trust me they will eventually reverse this, just like they clone saga, which since they finally killed Kane (by the most uninteresting villain) there are no more links to it left (that I know of).
Of course this is my opinion, not saying your wrong, I just respectful disagree.
Wait, were they forced to write the wedding, or One More Day?
I could let Stacy's death go if they let it have some dignity. Instead they had several clones of her running around and a horrible plot about her having Norman Osborn's kids before he killed her. What does the Venom symbiote have to do with that, though?
I'm not sure what you're talking about with Frank Miller. (He wrote Spider-man stories? I didn't know that.)
While I'm not confident that you're right, I hope to God that you are. This story line is just undignified, as much for Octavius as it is for Peter.
The Stacey clone plot was painful, I thought the loss of Peter and Mary's daughter May was more troublesome, more so since marvel claims she is dead and not just taken by Osborn.
The Venom symbite was a extremely hated at the time, if the internet was around I could see backlash on par with clone saga or One more day, (they were that mad at the time).
Frank Miller (the man behind Sin city and the movie 300 and lots more) got sad one day when his birthday hit and he was older than Bruce Wayne. He was permitted to do Batman books (some debated to be the best comic material ever) one of the books was "The Dark Knight Returns" where Batman and the Justice league were forced to retire. Superman signed up with the government, Green Arrow didn't retire and had his arm ripped off and was jailed, (I could go on) Years later, a old Batman snaps and wears the cap again. Its based on the original timeline so lots of cold wars atmosphere. They made a 2 part movie that was dead on and great. Point is Frank Miller got sad that Batman was not progressing so he did a book where time passed. I recommend looking into it. [link]
I too hope I'm right about superior spider-man. But you have to admit it, they have the most obvious back door of to fix it.
While we are talking random tangents, how do you feel about the current Fantastic 4 and Paris Hilton being the sit in for the Thing. Makes the Superior Spider-man plot sound reasonable on paper. I can't find an emote the express the pain. I tried.
Okay, well wouldn't it have made sense to have the marriage fall apart sooner and... more naturally? The whole deal with the devil angle was just... bleagh.
May's death was more painful, but at least it was left alone... until One More Day... where the authors decided to further punish the Parkers for marrying. Or existing. I'm not sure they don't just outright hate Spider-man now...
And wow. They really hated alien goo as much as they hate One More Day now? I'm starting to see why people have little respect for Spider-man fans.
Oh right, DKR. That was awesome. But I'm not talking about something that epic, just something along the lines of Robin becoming Nightwing.
Now if they if only they use that backdoor.
I'm not gonna compare it to Superior (mainly because it wouldn't be an objective comparison) but I will say this:
Why. Just... why.
I mean, it's just a model Johnny dated in a Thing suit. Words cannot express how stupid this is.
your not the only one. im a hardcore spidey fan and dan slott destroyed the whole series in my opinion. its like omd all over again. they do this rebooting crap every decade. they kill off gwen stacy: dick move. get aunt may shot after revealing his identity: dumb idea. then the deal with devil that erace one of the best fictinal mariage ever: real dick move. now this crap: ahhhhhhh!!! why do they always have to screw with spiderman life. why cant he have a happy ending.
i think i know what this is. the whole rason they wanted peter single again is to keep writing more stories. i mean if mj did conceive a kid. then marvel dont think they could write more stories. no reader does not want to see a mature and grown up peter who is a husband and a father. so in my opinion his story ended 2 decades ago. writers just cant handle the dopeness that is spiderman
Actually, there a lot of people who'd love Peter to grow up. Lewis Lohaugh for one was adamant about having Peter act more like an adult and be more responsible. The guys from After Hours also pushed for a more mature Spidey, one of them lamented that Marvel kept him stuck in the same awkward prepubescent cycle. Hell, most of the guys defending Superior are doing so because they see Ocks approach to Peter's life as thought out and mature.
Honestly, it's just Marvel not growing up. Some comics have done a great job of having their young heroes mature. Look at Dick Grayson; has a successful career as Nightwing, worked with his own Robin, and so. Look at Wally West; has been the Flash for so long that it takes a minute to remember Barry Allen. Look at Gar Logan...
okay, don't at Gar Logan.
My point is, they could make Peter more mature, if they put some thought, effort, and planning into it. He doesn't have to be the happily married father of two. In fact, I wouldn't have minded the split between Pete an' MJ if it wasn't part of the hackeneyed reboot that was One More Day. If Marvel wants to change a character, it should always strive to make it for the better. Always
